3.75 stars "Generations" offers a different take on the future of the human race, albeit with familiar human traits and foibles. Politics is heavily featured alongside a good dose of relatively hard sci-fi. The most unusual thing here, though, has to be the fact that this space-based tale is all about the journey and not the destination. And that makes it very different from most stories in the genre, and all the more interesting for it. This really good story is let down by an evident lack of proofreading, which means the reader keeps being jolted out of the journey undertaken by Sandrine through her investigation that sees her 'world' turned upside down. Other than this, there are few criticisms that could be levelled at this work. Perhaps Josephides will reward us with the Thetans at their destination in a future tale?

Not the best sci-fi story I've ever read but certainly a reasonable read. Worth the time if looking for something to read.

A very thoughtful book, indicating that no matter how life moves on in the future, human nature does not change.

A lot of science fiction has the action on a 'generation ship' - a huge spaceship carrying a group across light years to a new home around a different star. Generally the story revolves around aliens or mutants, but in this case the author finds a whole new - and wholly believable - situation to drive the excellent story.

I loved this book. Full of intrigue and suspense that had me gripped until the end. Great characters, great storytelling and quite frighteningly plausible.

@fatguyreading For me, Generations is somewhat of a slow burn, and quite character driven, but that's not a bad thing, as I throughly enjoyed this read. Our story is centered around the Thetis, an isolated space ship carrying the last remnants of humanity on a journey to resettle on a new planet. With a great female lead character, Sandrine, Generations offers a different take on the fate of humanity and is heavily political. There are alot of parallels between the ship's societal structure and the current structure we see in the world today. The characters felt real and were believable and the world building was decent. I read this in two sittings. 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 "s from me.

This is an ‘enemy of the state’ story set on a multi-generational starship carrying the last remnants of Earth’s population. Harsh truths are revealed about human nature prevailing over an idealistic society designed to help them survive. It’s a great concept that intrigued me. The heroine is Senior Archivist Sandrine, who has an inquiring mind and a penchant for meticulously recorded information. This leads her down a rabbit hole that nobody wants to talk about but she can’t leave it alone. It's a slow burn, heavy on politics and science but with outstanding attention to detail and enjoyable to read. I had to concentrate to follow the plot in places, which is not a bad thing. Well worth your time to read. I noticed a few typos which were disappointing in a book of this calibre, but didn’t dissuade me from finishing it.

I always enjoy a book whose author has the talent to develop characters as the story is being told. A book titled "Generations" may scare off some would-be readers. However, if you read the full title, "Generations: A Science Fiction Mystery Thriller," you should realize that this is not one of 'those' books! In fact, writer Noam Josephides has cleverly told the story of a multiple generational voyage abroad an ark-type spaceship designed to reach a new home - somewhere out there.... there is some debate about the destination, but that's part of the story. I enjoyed the book, the originality of the story, and the characters. I look forward to reading subsequent books by this author. -Mr.Bill

A multi-generational starship journey ; now you might say “yes, read that sort of thing before”. Well (after 50+ years) so have I. But the attention to the scientific detail of the starship is absolutely amazing. The author obviously researched this extensively; the closest analogy I can give to how I felt about the detail is when I read The Martian (Andy Weir) - I.e., how can one extrapolate that level of detail from what is known today? Additionally, for me, the human aspects of the story are along the lines of “you can remove man from political intrigue, but can you remove political intrigue from man?” (Spoiler alert: no you can’t).

…as long as you don’t think too hard about the plot, which falls apart sometimes. Writing is also rather poor.
