As you would expect from one so fascinating....This book is a really good , surprising read. If (like me) you have been a fan for 40 years plus...there isn't much that is new...but a very interesting story nonetheless. Some good photos included from Cher's own archive. Surprisingly honest (she doesn't sugar coat to make herself seem better, trust me! haha) Buy this, you will love it!

I had read a couple of exerts in the weekend papers, and it sounded like an intriguing book. Yes, an interesting read for Cher fans, and only part one. Nice to have a hardback especially if it is going to do the rounds of my friends after I have read it.

As a devoted fan since 1999, I eagerly dived into Part 1 of Cher's memoir, and it did not disappoint. Cher's signature wit and honesty shine through every page, drawing readers into her remarkable journey from the humble beginnings of her childhood to the roller coaster of the first 20 years of her career. Her storytelling is both heartfelt and humorous, revealing the struggles and triumphs that have shaped her into the icon we adore today. Cher’s reflections on her relationships—especially the complicated one with Sonny Bono—her music, and the ever-changing landscape of the entertainment industry are particularly engaging. She shares candid anecdotes that highlight her determination, making it clear why she remains a beloved figure. The memoir is not just a chronicle of her life; it’s also a testament to the power of resilience. Cher’s ability to adapt and thrive through the decades is inspiring, and her insights into fame and personal growth are thought-provoking. For long-time fans and newcomers alike, Cher's memoir is a must-read. It captures the essence of a true legend and leaves you eagerly anticipating the next chapter of her extraordinary life.

Cher is actually dyslexic, so I assume this incredibly detailed account of her life (so far) is a real triumph. One imagines her turning a recorder on, and then reeling off the stories. It does read like she is telling it direct. And she remembers EVERYTHING. I purchased it as a Sonny & Cher fan, and all those amazing singles from the 80s / 90s (which will no doubt come in volume 2). Nevertheless, I found it really enjoyable read in its entirity.

Arrived undamaged. Beautiful cover & pages are thin but eco friendly paper though font seems smaller than otjer hard back books but my eyes could be getting worse! Lovely glossy pages of b/w & colour images in 3 batches. Only just started reading it but already hooked in. I remember Sonny & Cher as a kid in 60s & still love her today. Great sense of humour & doesn't sugar coat anything. Look forward to Part 2!

Let me tell you, I enjoy memoirs when I’m in the right mood, and this is no exception. Cher and Stephanie J. Block, the actress who won a Tony after playing Cher on Broadway, take turns narrating Part 1 of 2 (Part 2 drops November 2025) and they sound so similar that they’re easy to confuse. As fierce and brazen as she tends to seem in interviews and in the roles she plays, she is actually far more vulnerable, naive, and even innocent than one might expect. Evolving from humble beginnings that included addiction/co-addiction, domestic violence, poverty, and trauma, she displays a strong work ethic in the absence of any sense of entitlement. She seems honest and genuine as she speaks about the complicated but loving relationship she had with her mother, how hard it was to watch her mother hold fast to the belief that success and stability in a woman’s life were to be attained by way of a man, and how hard she has worked to break the cycles found within her family system. Maybe one of the most surprising things is the sometimes childlike, or maybe just ingenuous affection and appreciation she feels toward Sonny. She is neither unkind nor dramatic when she speaks candidly about the ways he admittedly exploited her and their success, or his history of infidelity. In fact, she seems fairly straightforward when she describes how his often controlling, possessive, manipulative, and even calculated approach to their professional and domestic partnerships. Admittedly she has worked through negative feelings she once harbored in relation to Sonny, and seems left with positive regard and genuine affection toward him overall. There are times when it feels like an example of trauma bonding borne of emotional abuse within their marriage, while there are other times when it feels as though she simply loves things they shared. This is the first of two parts, and there is a great deal of detail with regard to her costumes and wardrobe, as well as the exterior/interior designs related to her homes. She is quick-witted, sarcastic, and clever, as well as warm, and just really easy to like. The anecdotal accounts tend to be evolve organically, her conversational tone inviting her audience to look forward to knowing more of, and feeling closer to, “Cher,” and all that that implies. Trigger Warning: addiction/co-addiction, domestic violence, family enmeshment, male dependence, gaslighting
