I found this a fascinating read. I loved all the folklore. I’ve recently started to look into magik and hoodoo so this book served me well. Well written and enjoyable.

I’m an avid reader and l especially like books about Appalachia and the lore which surrounds it. I grew up in KY and am very familiar with the area. I purchased this book hoping to get some deeper insight into mountain hoodoo, spells, root healing etc. Apart from a few high points about moon phases, this was, in my opinion, the most shallow reaching/scratch the surface book. Nothing was informative and nothing l didn’t already know. Toatally a surface only read! If the reader really wants to get deep into mountain lore, this book isn’t recommended.

This book barely touches the surface of anything let alone explains it. There is little, if anything, to learn in here.

The author repeated information often to fill pages with words. This work does not accurately detail or depict the true old lifestyle, spells, medicine or supetsitions of Appalachia. An interview with an elderly mountain woman would have supplied ample facts, which this publication does not.
