**Spoiler free** I read the Kindle version. The text was perfect. I note a reviewer from 2021 says the text was poorly translated, that wasn't my experience. The translation. layout and footnotes were all accurate. As for the story. It's a piece of classic literature for a reason. Once read, you'll see Orwell's 1984 isn't so much a homage to We, it's more a blatant copy. Which is better, Orwell or Zamyatin? That depends on your taste. We is the more challenging read. It's not a complex story, but as the narrator experiences erosion of his world view, he naturally goes through states of confusion and disorientation. So at times his telling of the story is disjointed. This adds to the atmospherics, but if you're after a quick simple read it could be frustrating. At times you just have to trust the narrative will explain itself later (it does). We is bleaker than 1984. The psychological horror is more nuanced. These are things the classic Russian writers do better than anyone else. It's a masterpiece of a book, it makes 1984 look like a Young Adult Sci-Fi, but you may not be in the mood for 1920s Russian-style story telling.

First dystopic novel ever written which became the reference point for the dystopias that followed, such as 1984 or A Brave New World and many others. It's a must read if you want to know where humanity is heading to and also a wake-up call for Marxists (read Zamyatin's bibliography and the influences behind this book and you'll figure out what I mean).

The last 30 pages were printed upside down. And. a quarter of those pages had been slice off so you cannot even read the page upside down. Appalling of Penguin to release such badly printed copies.

I haven't read the book, but I really like the hardcover by Penguin Vitae. It is nice and sturdy, even if it clunked around in the shipping box. It is also textured; that's why I took the picture at an angle to show that.

This is a really nice edition of the book, Penguin did a great job issuing this version, the cover is beautiful and at a good price for a hardcover. The introduction and forward are a little dry but add some necessary context. The novel itself is intriguing, it can be a little slow at times, you can tell it was written 100 years ago.

Good background text in support of early interpretations of historical, philosophical, and futuristic literature.
