This biography of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Is a well researched by left or right of the spectrum of the time of the Queen’s reign. With good comments of the time of what government is in seat!

Reading a Craig Brown book is like getting into a comfortable warm bed with slightly rumpled sheets and being gently tickled. This is no exception. It has its usual eccentricities and hilarious moments (the corgi family tree, for instance); it is often rambling and directionless; and there are lots of jokes and puns to stumble on. Like his book on Princess Margaret, this is far too unreliable to be classed as a biography. It’s more a sort of light touch canter through the life of the Queen and her reign. Loads of serious books about her majesty out there if that’s what you want. But this is a Craig Brown. Different and fun.

It must be challenging to write about someone who was so careful to keep their own counsel and do their duty, nevertheless I enjoyed reading this biography of Queen Elizabeth II. As usual Brown uses a wide range of resources to substantiate his book which results in a different, less sycophantic perspective. What I missed is the wit, satire and fantasy that I enjoyed in his book on Princess Margaret - hence three stars.

I haven’t read the book yet so I can’t give an opinion but I like the look of the style of writing.

This is a surprisingly good book - thatlooks at over 100 different aspects of queen Elizabeth II in over a hundred (short) chapters. She emerges as being a very normal human being who has tried her best to live up to the job she was born into. I does cover most of the events of her lifetime( was eight years old on her coronation and haver mkeories of many of the events. I started reading ithe book expecting it to be just another book in the 'royalt industry' but was surprised as I got deeper into it that a portrait of the queen was emerging out of the many different facets covered by each chapter. Well owrth a read.

A truly perceptive look at the late Queen and her world, this is a surprisingly humerous and gossipy trek through her life. Friends, family, and the general population are probed and judged as they respond to the most famous woman in the modern world. Altogether, a lively and respectful biography and a delightful read!
