This book was a real page-turner! The author's writing style is incredibly engaging, and I found myself completely drawn into the story. The initial premise was intriguing, and the early chapters kept me guessing. However, as the plot unfolded, I felt the direction shifted slightly from what I was initially expecting. While the ending was satisfying in its own way, I couldn't help but wonder what might have been. Despite this, I still highly recommend this book for travel or holiday reading. It's a perfect escape and offers plenty of thought-provoking moments to ponder while relaxing.

Picked up this book as it had glowing reviews as a psychological thriller with plenty of twists, however I struggled a bit to get through it. For most of the book it reads more like a cheap closed door romance with characters who come across as caricatures rather than real people, implausible storylines, and bimbotic narration. I kept plowing through mostly as the blurb and reviews said there were twists so I was hoping for something spectacular to warrant the many 5 stars it received but was left feeling disappointed. The twists were simultaneously predictable and absurd, and everything was tied up far too neatly with the aid of yet another unbelievabley convenient plot device that just felt like lazy writing. The overall premise was interesting but the quality of the writing really let it down for me... Smarter characters who actually orchestrated their own revenge rather than benefitting from unrealistic and poorly explained strokes of luck would have carried this book, but as it was I was I was left wondering why I bothered finishing it. The narration was also a major annoyance, I realise with first person narrative you have to use the characters voice which can limit the complexity of vocabulary used, and requires simplified language when the character is uneducated... But this was only the case for one of our narrators. The second was well educated and should have had a different voice, and to me it was simply poor writing that she spoke to the reader in the same vernacular and displayed the same limited comprehension as the first narrator. This is honestly a huge bug bear of mine with authors who choose to use first person POV but use the same voice for all characters. Honestly I'd say this book is perfectly fine brainless reading for a holiday read or simply to kill time, but it won't be one that stays with me or which I'd bother to recommend.

I can't remember what was the trigger to buy this book but it seems to review well (and has sold huge numbers). I think I may have confused it with The Maid but I liked the sound of this book so decided to give it a go. By the look of the cover it's going to be great. I'd not heard of the author but was interested in her combination of medical and psychological thriller writing as careers. I was also impressed with her long list of novels. This book has 328 pages split into 61 chapters and was first published in 2022. From the start it is clear that something awful has happened. We are then taken back a few months to find out what. There are plenty of secrets and some very weird events. The readers senses are heightened and there is a lot of suggestion. The narrative starts looking from Millie's perspective - she is very cautious of her environment although is not an innocent party which adds plenty of layers. The concept of the plot is tight with a small cast of characters making it an unchallenging book to read but there are enough twists to keep the attention all the way through. Gradually the story moves along, all the time keeping enough tension to make you think it is all going to go wrong at any moment. The prologue has introduced the idea of a body in the attic but there is a lot to be discovered before the book gets to that. Complexity is added and, whilst it all seems implausible, I did get hooked in and I loved the ending. It seemed unlikely that this book is going to be developed into a series but that is what has happened and I'm definitely going to get the next one.

I have seen this book everywhere, and when I started reading Freida’s books this is the one everyone recommended, it was so good! And the twists in it were perfect, my only complaint is, I wish I was longer 😂 Millie needs a job, and when she sees a housemaid advert she jumps at the chance, it’s live in, so no more sleeping in the car, and it’s in a rich neighbourhood cleaning some families home. Because of Millie’s background she doesn’t think she will get the job, but when she receives a call from Nina asking her to start right away she can’t believe her luck. As Millie starts working she realises that not everything is as it seems, Nina seems to be a bit crazy, and her Husband, Andrew is the perfect gentlemen that Millie can’t stop looking at all. I would throughly recommend this book to everyone who lives a psychological thriller.

This book immediately drew me in. Even parts where I thought I knew what was gong to happen, it was so well written it didn’t feel like a bore. But then the plot twist came and I couldn’t put it down. Literally jaw-dropping and edge of my seat. I finished the first half in 30 mins, then when I was able to get back to reading it, finished the second half in 45 mins. Great book. Not sure where the second one is going to go, but if it’s anything like the first I’m excited to read it! Very well written and captivating.
