A rather difficult book to read, if you are not medically trained. The details are good, but difficult to really understand. Not many people would take on,then foster and adopt a disabled child.

This was an excellent read although Mrs Giganti writes in partial sentences at times. For those with no background in the field, the medical details will be hard to fully comprehend. Regardless, I would highly recommend it.

Baby Heather was born with major medical problems, never expected to talk or thrive, was abandoned by her birth mother, and set to be institutionalized for the rest of her life—That is, until she was adopted by Ann and Jim Giganti, and with their love and care, Heather ended up instead having a fabulous life. This is the story of exactly how it all happened from when Heather was a baby, up until almost present day. Heather required around the clock care when she was a baby, and she had several medical procedures along the way, of course, but some of those procedures would have never happened if not for how devoted Ann was to helping her, and how far she went to ensure Heather received the best care available. The book is also about the Giganti family, in general, including Heather’s sister and brother. They are a very loving and close-knit bunch. One thing I didn’t like about the book was that it contained a lot of medical information- too much, and too detailed for a layperson, and unnecessary for the story. I also thought that there were too many details in some of the family stories that were told, that also didn’t need to be in the book. I did end up skimming through the entirety of some of those stories. All in all, though, I thought it was a good book, and a happy story. The world could use more people like Ann and Jim Giganti, that’s for sure!

Have not read this novel as yet, what I have perused so far looks like it's going to be a page turner.
