I first bought Leendertz’s Almanac this year (2024), and my enjoyment of it led me to already have the 2025 edition on pre-order when the chance came to take part in this tour; which I think reflects how much pleasure I have gained from reading and referring to the text so far this year! Of course, I am a bit late to the party, with the 2025 edition being the eighth instalment of The Almanac. Each year, the author selects a theme for the book; this year has been the garden, with the inclusion of garden and weather folklore, flower of the month, and even a suggested snack! In 2025, the theme will be ancient astrology, and this includes a ‘megalith of the month’ (of course starting with Stonehenge in January!), which the author describes as “a calendar of sorts in stone and shadow”, and a ‘star story of the month’ – stories of the constellations from around the world. Still included are all the features you would expect from an almanac, from moon phases to tide times. But I was also pleased to see the return of the edible factor – cake of the month! – along with folk songs and crafts. This year’s edition is also brought to life with the beautiful illustrations of Sarah Abrehart. I have found a lot of pleasure dipping into this delightful volume over the course of this year, and I’m sure I will continue to do so with the 2025 edition. I’d encourage anyone who is interested in connecting more closely with the changing seasons, and reading interesting facts and stories along the way (and perhaps trying a cake or two!), to give it a go!

I buy one of Lia's almanacs every year. They are always beautifully illustrated and informative, and the 2025 one is no different. I can't wait to read it in the new year.

This is a small book that I have bought for a couple of my friends for Christmas. It has loads of different things of information in it from: 1. Moon cycles 2. Recipes 3. Information about the season 4. Information about nature 5. Constellation 6. Different calendar events regarding the UK. 7. Natural history. This book is about the size of an A5. There are no colour pictures. The paper looks like a soft cream unbleached type of paper which gives it a softness to the eye. It’s a wonderful little book full of fascinating information you can dip in/out of throughout the year. A lovely little book to curl up on a cold winter’s day and enjoy with a hot cup of tea, and just to relax with. When I’m with this little book, I feel like time stops still and we all need some soothing nature in our lives. I can’t recommend this highly enough.

Left on the Shelf Book Blog
It is a small volume which contains a wealth of knowledge. As expected, it is broken down into monthly chapters with each of them being folkishly illustrated by Sarah Abrehart. Each month has a title chapter page listing it's contents which include the religious festivals of a range of religions. These vary from the Chinese New Year through to Litha, the Pagan Midsummer Festival, international celebration days, UK Bank Holidays and so much more. Within each of the monthly chapters there is a marvellous array of information. There are tide tables, lunar gardening, music, crafts, recipes, all with the theme of ancient astronomy running throughout. There is something to appeal to everyone in this whether your interest is the giant megaliths or the moon cycles.

I bought a few of these because they are terrific gifts at Christmas, so that people have it for the whole year ahead. Especially good if you are into nature, gardening, astronomy, astrology, and music.
