Lots of characters in the beginning of the book to get used to,but they all soon fall into place. The book is a very interesting and gripping read. Whos the mystery man or woman running the show. The characters are really easy to love and there funny ways. Really enjoyed the book and can't wait for more in this series

I've been looking forward to reading We Solve Murders ever since Richard Osman announced that he would be writing a new series. It's inevitable that there will be comparisons with The Thursday Murder Club and whilst that doesn't feel entirely unfair, there are some marked differences. The humour, which is very British, is still there and it really helped me to enter the world of the characters, but this novel feels a lot less cosy and much more action packed. I loved meeting our team of investigators, Steve, Amy and Rosie. They're all very different and they're not characters you would automatically put together, but I loved the way they played to each other's strengths, encourage each other and had each other's back. I enjoyed seeing them grow over the course of the novel, and it was a joy to see Steve, in particular, come out of his shell. They are surrounded by a great group of supporting characters, including Jeff and the pub quiz team, and they are all really well developed and fit seamlessly into the story. The plot of We Solve Murders is complex and it did keep me on my toes for most of the novel. However, the characters are constantly on the move (much to Steve's displeasure) and the chapters are quite short, so this creates a really fast pace to the novel that makes it really easy to read. There is a sense of danger that runs through the story and the intrigue kept me fully invested right until the end. The ending sets us up brilliantly for a sequel, and indeed a long running series, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Brilliant read!!!! I was wondering how I’d cope with a different gang than the Thursday Murder Club, but it was equally excellent!!!

I didn't like it I adored it.Again wonderful characterization through out, lots of writers could learn from you how to write a small character that's memorable to the reader.loved Rosie and Amy and adored Steve and Debbie love.Even trouble was good. Can't wait for the next installment of both series.Thank you Richard

Oh I really wanted to like this one more than I did. The first in a new series from Osman after his very successful, and indeed very enjoyable Thursday Murder Club series. I feel We Solve Murders suffers the same issues as the first Murder Club book had, perhaps more so. The Thursday Murder Club book one felt a little messy, too complicated, uneven in tone and not very well rounded characters. The subsequent books I found absolutely charming with much more streamlined lined stories, fantastically fleshed out characters and a confidence in the writing that ironed out the unevenness of the first. I hope that will be the case here. The story of We Solve Murders feels overly complicated for the light hearted tone of the book. There’s way too many characters and the main characters who we are meeting for the first time suffer as a consequence. A daughter in law and father in law are the central characters and neither are that interesting. Amy the daughter in law comes across as an extremely bland and uninteresting character to hang the book on. Steve, the father in law feels like an extra from The Thursday Murder Club, a character that didn’t quite make the cut. The chapters are very short(some only a page long)and it’s to the detriment of the book. I couldn’t connect with the characters as it was like now you see them now you don’t as they dipped in and out of the story. We spend a couple of pages in one part of the world and suddenly we are somewhere else on the planet for a few minutes. Look it’s an awful lot of moaning from me about it but there is enough there to make this an enjoyable series and I have confidence Mr Osman will deliver. It just felt like he tried to throw the kitchen sink at this new series opener and unfortunately it’s a case of less is more. More to just way too much. I’m giving this three stars as I do have high hopes for the series and I think we will eventually see good books in it but for me We Solve Murders was a hugely underwhelming start.

Having delighted in all The Thursday Murder Club outings, I was more than ready for a new work by this excellent author. From beginning to end this tale of murky financial dealings, “influencers” out of their depth and, naturally, Murders, flies as smoothly as a private jet. There is trouble aplenty for this mixed bunch of new sleuthing friends and Trouble in the form of lovely Steve’s beloved cat. Private islands, close protection operatives, Bond style villains, bit of romance, pub quiz nights etc - what’s not to love!? Bodyguard Amy, her delightful father-in-law Steve whose tiny local detective agency mainly finds lost pets, the bonkers, risqué and fabulous author Rosie D’Antonio plus a varied cast of characters both good and thoroughly evil, populate a story absolutely crying out to be filmed. Whirlwind changes of location in search of an apparently invisible crime lord ensure that the pace never lets up. The wit is dry as a bone, the plot satisfyingly complex and the writing top notch. More please!

In We Solve Murders, someone has put a hit on Amy Wheeler, private bodyguard. She, along with famous writer Rosie and retired police Steve, travel the world to try to solve murders that Amy is being set up for at the same time they evade the multiple hit men who come for her. It’s a fun caper, with more youth and money than Richard Osman’s other hit series, The Thursday Murder Club. Osman draws some of his characters particularly well, and both Rosie and Steve stand out. They are charming, flawed, but they get things done through a clear POV. Many of the other characters the novel introduces us to are wryly fun despite lacking complexity. Readers will immediately understand who the mechanic Tony is when he is introduced, for example, and we learn he isn’t wanted on the quiz team and doesn’t understand what a ring doorbell does. Amy herself feels a little more like a cipher, a character with some interiority but that still needs a lot of fleshing out. What we know about her boils down to her being a competent bruiser comfortable talking about domestic matters with her father in law as someone who loves but doesn’t ever need to see or talk to her husband. It’s a bit thin. It took me a while to get into this one, mostly because the intros to all the character POVs took time and there’s a whole internet to distract me, but once I got into the narrative (around the time Amy is first attacked and Rosie starts to shine), it went fast. Kept me guessing the whole way through!

This series promises to be just as entertaining as the last one for this author! He has an incredible way of making murder and mayhem somehow amusing and entertaining. The characters are so vividly written that I can see and hear them in my mind at first meeting. This author is truly gifted. Never a dull moment.
