The characters were really well created, a collection of people who took time to gel because they wouldn't have likely come across each other or been natural friends other than through the shared secret that drew and glued them together. I really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down. I think in part that's because the characters were so different that there were parts of each of their personalities that I connected with and as a result I was invested in every chapter equally. I must admit that I found their unwillingness to go to the police very frustrating at times but as a victim of stalking and with the worrying facts Cally presented in her acknowledgements it looks as if the characters didn't just have some secret of their own to hide but had lost faith in a system which didn't do enough to protect them, not just once but time and time again. That is a real cause for concern, as is the way an eloquent speaker is always more easily believed. Cally Taylor does such a good job at casting doubt over her characters version of events. This is so cleverly handled and highlights both the issue of perspective and the importance of hearing both sides of a story but also how much doubt one perspective can throw on another person's version of the truth. Regardless of how honest a character has convinced themselves and others that they are, the truth of a situation that people come away with is often based on the strength of both parties to convince others. This psychology from the seeds Cally has planted will stay with me for a long time.

Wanted to really like this book as I was aware the author had been a victim of stalking and was interested in their fictional perspective. A decent read overall but a little silly in parts and I guessed fairly early on which of the group was ‘involved’ though not the final twist. Would say I enjoyed reading but wouldn’t rush to recommend, sorry.

I haven't read any of this author's books before so thought I'd give this one a go. The concept was good and it wasn't a bad read overall, but I found a few inconsistencies which were a bit irritating. There was one scene where one of the characters went to get a shower, telling her boyfriend to stay in bed. But then her phone buzzes while she's in the shower and she gets out and dried, reads the messages, then texts the boyfriend who replies 'do you want me to come over?'. Bit strange if he's already in the flat! There were a few more passages like that, where the storyline just didn't seem to make sense. I re-read parts of it in case I'd missed something, but I don't think that was the case. I also wondered how someone who'd received multiple blows to the head with a heavy object would be able to drive a car from Devon to London the same night! Surely they'd have concussion at least? Despite these anomalies, it made a fairly entertaining read and on a serious note, I do think there should be more awareness around the impact that stalking has on the victims. I may try another of the author's books to compare with this one.

The book was compelling in really bringing home to me the fear of stalking, both physical and psychological. Yes, the characters grate at times and it’s laid on thicker than a docker’s sandwich, but it’s important that the subject is covered and this it did very well. As a man I hadn’t properly appreciated how stalking could be so terrible. Now I do. As for the clanger, the plot involves a character having to visit a leading city barrister. The author did not research this properly. Barristers work in chambers, not the same as solicitor practices. They are not ‘partners’ in the chambers, rather they are tenants of chambers and are self employed. Worst though is that you can’t just walk off the street and see a barrister for advice. Barristers normally take instructions only from solicitors, so the character would never have been granted a meeting in the circumstances described. The author has obviously got carried away with her very personal narrative and allowed a somewhat lazy error to spoil an otherwise good story. In itself it’s not a show stopper but this kind of issue always makes me wonder whether there are other errors in areas with which I'm not familiar.
